About World Action Foundation

We Are at the Forefront of Humanitarian Affairs

Healthy Food

We combat hunger and malnutrition by providing nutritious meals and essential food supplies to vulnerable children and families.

Education

We break the cycle of illiteracy and poverty by providing quality education, school supplies, and protection to children who would otherwise be left behind.

Our Story

History of Upcountry People in Sri Lanka

For over two centuries, the hill country Tamil community has been the backbone of Sri Lanka's tea industry—yet their contributions have come at a devastating cost. Brought as indentured laborers during British colonial rule, they endured grueling conditions, disease, and displacement. Even today, more than one million Malaiyaha Tamils remain among Sri Lanka's most marginalized communities, living in overcrowded line rooms with limited access to education, healthcare, and nutritious food.

World Action Foundation exists because communities like the hill country Tamils have been overlooked for too long. Through partnerships with local organizations, we are providing life-saving nutrition, education for every child, and healthcare to those who need it most. Your support helps ensure that the hands that pluck the tea leaves are no longer the hands that go hungry.

In 1823, British emperors brought people of Indian origin to work in the plantation sector in Sri Lanka to overcome poverty. These individuals are now known as “Hill Country Tamils” and they work as daily wage laborers in the estate sector. For the past two centuries, these hands with tea stains have been bound by poverty. These underprivileged individuals live in compact line houses with roughly a space of only eight-by-eight feet. They lack adequate social, economic, and health development as well as proper education. Our goal is to uplift and develop this community.

Who We Are

A non-profit built on accountability

World Action Foundation is a non-profit social service organization providing educational support, nutrition, and healthcare to disadvantaged children and their families. Every program is measured against our own Constitution — the governance structure that keeps our mission, vision, and spending aligned.

Our three pillars — education, health & nutrition, and financial empowerment — are chosen for what sustains a community long after the first donation: long-term guidance, not one-time relief.
